Theses guides
represent one of the results of two year's work (1998-2000) in five European
countries: England, France, Germany, Italy and Spain. The work was funded
by the Commission of the European Union under Sokrates, Lingua D and teachers
and co-ordinators of the five countries met and shared their ideas, practices
and work in order to produce these publications.
The guides
are being published in five languages. But it is important to stress that
the different language versions are not straight translations of their equivalents.
Each guide has been put together by different writing and editing teams sharing
their ideas and contributions but tailoring them accordingly. The reasons
for this are that each country is operating in a different educational system
with different opportunities, constraints and difficulties. Each guide, therefore,
needs to direct itself to the local context but, at the same time, recognise
the different contexts of partner institutions.
